I am not going to China for this

First let me be honest that when we decided not to stay at the White Swan I was a little disappointed for about 5 minutes. The WS is all part of the "experience". But you know this is not about an experience, although I am sure it will be like nothing we have ever experienced as a family. This journey is about a baby girl. Sophia June XuCan. Our daughter. We will make our way over to the WS to see if it can live up to the hype. We will eat breakfast there; I love some good American breakfast food! We will take the red couch picture, and the waterfall picture that you have all seen a hundred times before. What I can't wait for is getting to know our girl and sharing the "experience" of becoming a family of five.

Here is my favorite photo of Sophie, here is the reason for our 17-hour plane ride, months of waiting and waiting some more. We love you Sophie. We will be there very, very soon!!

**** The reason we chose to stay at the Victory Hotel was due to cost. The WS would have been $220 more a night!! That's alot clams for a Barbie!*******

I hear ya sister. I would stay in a hut if it got me closer to my baby girl. I don't give a whip about all the other stuff.

LOL at Mel!

I didn't know you weren't staying at the White Swan - reason? Like Connie, I'd stay wherever I had to go bring home my child, so yeah - WS or not, it will be the adventure of a lifetime... :)

The barbie represents me Mel...geesh, work with me!

I hear ya girl. You go get that precious babe and who cares where you stay. The WS won't even be open when I go, could you take a picture of the red couch completely empty so that I can photoshop my girl on it? You know I'm not kidding. ;0)

Anything for you girlfriend!

hey maybe I should sell that on ebay:) Just a pic of the red couch and space in front of the waterfall for people to photo shop themselves. Hehehe

LOL.....I might just sell enough of those on my March DTC board to buy a plane ticket to paradise!

Yeah, when I found out that the WS was gonna be closed, more than likely when we go, I was REALLY in shock, I had heard of it so much, and wanted that experience too, but when I found out that there is a Westin there, and that they are gonna give out the same things, and I also heard they will have a couch also, I was fine with it! We stayed at a Westin in Maui, and oh man, it was pure heaven!!! I'd probably stay there again just for the beds! Yes they were that nice.
But then again I would sleep anywhere for my baby girl!!!

Yeah, I've read some comments on other sites where people act like their whole trip is ruined because they can't get the White Swan barbie doll.

Okay, we stayed at the Victory, had a huge suite (actually more like an apartment) and it was so great. The breakfast is okay, that is better at the WS. We had two kids and two bathrooms at a fraction of the WS price. Our first night in China we stayed at the WS as we were visiting friends in Guangzhou before traveling on to Nanning and to LiLi. Stayed at the WS and MY opinion is that you made a wise choice. The bed are more comfortable at the Victory, you have so much room, and money in your wallet for other things. Also, we used the spa at both and the Victory Spa is much better, even took the boy child for a foot massage at the Victory and they told him no at the WS. Funny thing about the Barbie is I got one ~ LOL when we stayed at the WS That first night. Like you said ~ it is not about a Barbie, and I think that Mel should get a Hispanic one if she stays there :D

The WS was nice but the hotel part was the good part. The rooms left alot to be desired. The buffet rocked my world. Fresh Mango....omlets...all good stuff.

I can't complain about the WS but we stayed in a suite. They were kind enough to provide us with 2 barbies for the twins.(I had heard that the hotel was owned by Matel?) The service was unbelievable. BUT, we were there ONLY to bring our girls home. We had no choice on where we stayed. It was all part of the package. That said, we skipped the entire Beijing tours due to time constraints. It won't really matter if you're sleeping in a hut as long as you have your baby wiht you. Now, go and bring her home. Can't wait to see pictures.

I can't figure out why but that Barbie somehow... rubs me real wrong. Anyone else feel like that?
I'm not a Barbie fan in the first place, it just takes something so sacred and beautiful and makes it commercial... icky
